In addition, we find that the level of competitiveness in a video game is associated with aggression. Compared to less competitive games, students who played the more competitive “Fuel” and “Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe” reported greater elevations in aggression and had higher heart rates. The implications of this study open up the possibility of investigating psychologically oriented methods for enhancing esports performance, such as stress management and rehearsing critical decision-making under pressure.
