John Wayne’s Gun

In an acting career that spanned more than 40 years, John Wayne carried many different firearms on the big screen. But one sidearm stood out above all others: his classic Single Action Colt Peacemaker. Many collectors have dreamed of owning a gun like the Duke’s. Authentic motion picture Colts have historically sold for prices in the five-figure range. But now, thanks to Cimarron Fire Arms in Fredericksburg, Texas, fans of the American Western can own a true piece of cinematic history.

While it would be hard to categorize John Wayne’s gun films by genre, there is no doubt that he was the quintessential cowboy movie hero. He played characters who were tough, independent, and honest. He was a man who did what he thought was right and didn’t give in to the pressure of those around him. That was a big part of his appeal to audiences.

Throughout his career, Wayne appeared in more than 170 Westerns. He wore different costumes, worked with a variety of directors, and often appeared in several movies at the same time. He could make any film he wanted, with anyone he wanted and for any salary he chose. That flexibility made him a legend in the B-Western genre.

During this period, he favored a nickel-plated Colt Single Action Army revolver with yellowed ivory grips. He carried the model in such movies as The Trail Beyond, Red River, Rio Grande and Hondo. The holster that he used was a Buscadero or Tom Three persons style rig that rested high on his belt.
